West Hill Cemetery Sherman, Texas Robert Smith Nicholson 26 July 1878 - 11 June 1962 Maggie Cates Nicholson 4 March 1888 - 8 July 1982 wed 9 January 1911 SERVICES SET FOR RETIRED FARMER Funerals services were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Walnut Street Church of Christ for R.S. Nicholson, Sr., 83, of Sherman route 4, who died at 4:25 a.m. Monday in a Sherman hospital. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Church of Chirst for 60 years. Don Kesler, minister of the church, and Jack Nadeau, minister of the Wood St. Church of Christ, conducted the services. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, directed by Waldo Funeral Home. Elbert Cates, Johnny Cates, Eugene Cates, Lowell Cates, Imon Moore and Earnest Millsap were pallbearers. The body was at the home of his son, Robert S. Nicholson, Jr., 512 N. McKown. Mr. Nicholson, a resident of Grayson County for 79 years, was born July 26, 1878 in Mobile, Alabama. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph L. Nicholson. On January 9, 1911, he married Miss Maggie Cates in Ft. Worth. He had lived in Sherman for the last 18 years and retired from farming in 1947. Survivors besides his wife and son are four daughters, Mrs. Bernice John of Hurst, Mrs. Verna Nell Harris and Mrs. Virginia Henderson, both of Ft. Worth, and Mrs. Johnny Myrl Scott of Denison; a brother, Frank Nicholson of Howe; four half-sisters, Mrs. W.C. Enloe of Sherman, Mrs. L.C. Burkett of Sherman, route 4, Mrs. Lela Cates of Sulphur Springs, and Mrs. Euna Snyder of Oakland, Calif; a half-brother, Ralph Nicholson of Greenville; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and a number of neices and nephews.
