Denton Record-Chronicle Tuesday, December 23, 1975 pg.2 BOY WHO LOST FAMILY WILL HAVE CHRISTMAS Sherman, Texas (UPI) - Relatives of Landrus Lee McHanny, a 9-year-old boy who lost all of his immediate family in a weekend car crash, are going to try to make the best of Christmas. "We're going to try to go ahead with Christmas, but it's gonna be hard," said the boy's aunt, who asked to remain unidentified. "He's a strong little boy and he's taking it pretty good." But the aunt said things won't be the same without her brother, Harry, 35, and his family. "Without him it will be hard." she said. "He was always the life of the family. But, I'm quite sure Landrus Lee will have a good Christmas." While Landrus went to a Christmas program with his grandmother Sunday, his parents, brother, two sisters and two friends went for a drive through the dry farmlands of North Texas. The car ran off the road, careened across a creek and crashed into an embankment, killing all seven occupants. McHanny worked on an assembly line at a tool company, and kept some livestock, pigs and cows, on rented land in the county. "They were coming back to Sherman, I'm quite sure." the aunt said. "All I know is my brother was going down to Whitewright to get some hay for his cows. He kind of took the family along as an outing."
