CECIL O. BIVINS
Sherman - Cecil O. Bivins, 46, of 14 West Jones, an invalid the past 28 years of a spinal injury suffered in a football game at Burleson College, Greenville, died Monday at 5:10 a.m. at Muskogee, Oklahoma, where he was visiting relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Waldo Funeral Home chapel, Rev. Claud Johnston, pastor of the North Park Baptist Church, officiating, assisted by  Homer Thompson, assistant pastor of the First Baptist Church.  Burial was in Memorial Park.
Bivins was born September 25, 1899 [sic], at Bells.  He attended Sherman High School; Austin College; and Burleson College in Greenville.
The football tragedy that left him an invalid occurred while he was in ROTC training during the first World War.  A number of benefit football games have been played in Sherman in his honor.
Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Pearl Bivins Marks; and a half sister, Mrs. Pauline Marks of Dallas.
