West Hill Cemetery Sherman, Texas Edwin Goodwin Steele 1874 - 1939 Bess Ryan Steele 1888 - 1966 The Dallas Morning News September 4, 1938 Edwin G. Steele, 64, president of Sutton, Steele & Steel, Inc., engineers and manufacturers, died Saturday at his home in Irving. He was a resident of Dallas 49 years. Born in New York, Mr. Steele came to Texas as a child with his parents and settled in Georgetown. In 1889 he came to Dallas with his parents and 1900 he joined his brother, Walter L. Steele and Henry M. Sutton in the manufacturing concern of which he was president at the time of his death. He was elected president in 1930. He and his associates obtained many patents on devices pertaining to the separation of dry materials. In 1931 the company was awarded the John Price Wetherill medal by Franklin Institute, Philadelphia, for "Discovery and Invention in Physical Science." Mr. Steele was a Mason, a Shriner, a member of the Christ Episcopal Church, and a member of the American Institute of Mining and Metalurgical Engineers. Mr. Steele is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bess R. Steele; daughter, Mrs. John D. Merrill; 3 grandsons, 4 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. E.E. Ladd, all of Dallas; nieces, nephew of Sao Paulo, Brazil. . Funeral services were held Monday morning at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Sherman. Interment was at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman. Pallbearers were Herbert L. Binnings, Frank M. Neil, John D. Merrill, Frank E. Wood, Frank Ryan and Elton Howard. Dallas Morning News October 20, 1966 Mrs. Edwin G. Steele, 78, of 5232 Merrimac, former chairman of the board of Sutton, Steele and Steele, Inc. sorting machine manufacturers, died here Wednesday. Mrs. Steele was born in Dallas and reared in Sherman. She had been a counselor at the Hockaday School for girls and a staff member for the American Red Cross. She also w as a member of the Church of the Incarnation and served as a volunteer worker at its Thrift House. She had lived in Dallas for 50 years. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. John D. Merrill of Dallas; a sister, Mrs. Adele Ryan of Dallas; 3 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday morning in Sparkman's Funeral Chapel.
