Larry Polk 13 May 1951 - 29 October 1991 The Herald Democrat February 25, 2011 Sherman - Services for Betty E. Polk, 81-year-old Sherman resident, were held Saturday noon at Daniel Gray CME Church in Sherman. Mrs. Polk passed away Tuesday February 22, 2011 at Texas Health Presbyterian-WNJ in Sherman. Officiating was Rev. Roderick Shepard, Sr., pastor of the church. Burial followed at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman. James E. Smith Funeral Director had charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Polk is survived by her sons, Michael Polk, Arlie Polk, Jr. and Noble "Tony" Polk, all of Sherman; daughters, Rev. Debra Ikenyei and Rev. Alice Polk, both of Sherman; brothers, Wayne Winchester of Sherman and George Winchester of Austin; sisters, Clarice Coffey of Sherman and Jo Margaret Nolan of Salem, New Jersey; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Veronica Denise Polk was born 13th of January 1987 in Sherman, Texas to Larry and Eva Polk. She was raised in a loving family and educated in the Sherman Public schools. She graduated from Sherman High School in May 2005. "Vee", as she was lovingly called, enjoyed such hobbies as reading and ccoking. In her spare time, she loved to be a caregiver to children and her mother. She understood the importance of salvation and gave her life to Christ at a young age. She was an active member of the New Birth Cathedral of Praise church in Sherman, where she served as a devoted youth Bible study instructor. She recently graduated from The S.A.L.T. Connection Christian Women's Mentoring Program June 30, 2018. Earlty Tuesday morning, August 14, 2018 Vee was called by the Lord God to a peace that surpasses all understanding. There she will rest from her labors with those that have gone on before - her father and grandparents, Arlie and Betty Polk and Coleman and Geneva Wright. Vee is survived by her mother, Eva "Jodi" Polk of Sherman; sister, Brandi McQueen of Denton, Texas; God-sisters, Dannielle Scruggs of McKinney, Texas and Adrienne Hamilton of Little Elm, Texas; and many other relatives and friends. "Vee was one of the kindest and most free hearted person you could ever meet. She opened her heart and home to many children over the years and will be dearly missed."
