West Hill Cemetery Sherman, Texas Sherman - B.H. "Bud" Clarkson, 97, of Sherman, died Thursday, November 15, 2018. A graveside service was held Saturday morning, November 17, 2018 at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to contribute to the charity of your choice. Bud was born August 3, 1921 in Denison, Texas with his twin sister, Velma Ellen "Jo", to Lydia and Hary St. Clair. The twins were later adopted by their stepfather, V.L. Clarkson. All preceded him in death. Bud graduated from Olney High School in Olney, Texas, before enrolling at Texas Tech University. After 3 years, World War II interrupted his studies and he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He completed his degree in business administration at Texas Tech in 1947. Upon moving to Sherman, he owned and operated a cafe in downtown Sherman and then began working for the U.S. Postal Service at the Sherman Post Office, remaining there until his retirement in 1981. In his younger years, Bud loved to play tennis but in his later years, he was content to watch professional tennis on television. He also was a football enthusiast and was a devoted fan of the Texas Tech Red Raiders and also the Dallas Cowboys. He also enjoyed Texas Rangers baseball. He was able to maintain his love of golf for many years, playing at the Grayson College course until its closure a few years ago. He also enjoyed watching professional golf on television. Bud loved to laugh and nearly always had a joke to share. He enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and Canada, as well as a Holy Land trip to Israel. Bud was a dedicated Christian from a young age. In Sherman he attended Glad Tidings Church and then Harvest TIme Assemply until poor health kept him at home. Bud is survived by his nieces, Cherry Ellen Meadows of Sherman; and Vicki Lewis and husband, Stretch, of Galveston; great-nephew, Rob Lewis of Galvestion; great-niece Keath Ellen Lewis Jacoby and husband, Dave; and 2 great-great-nieces, Walker Adelaide and Josephine Ellen "JoJo", all of Galveston; many longtime church and family friends; several cousins; and loyal and devoted friend James Smith and wife, Vickie, of Sherman. - - -Waldo Funeral Home West Hill Cemetery Elaine Nall Bay ©2018 If you find any of Grayson County TXGenWeb links inoperable, please send me a message. |
