The Herald Democrat November 19, 2009 Sherman - Willie G. Hayes, 85 year old Sherman resident, passed away Monday, November 16, 2009 at the Homestead of Sherman. Services were held Friday, November 20th at 2:30 p.m. at Payne Chapel AME Church in Sherman with Rev. Marjorie Hamilton Scott, pastor, officiating. Burial followed at West Hill Cemetery. Mr. Hayes was born September 20, 1924 in Waxahachie, son of Richard and Ruby Hayes, and attended schools in the Waxahachie Public School System. Willie and his wife, Mary J. Rodgers Hayes, were married 62 years. He was a US Navy veteran and a membe of Payne Chapel AME Church in Sherman. Surviving are his wife; son, Robert J. "Bobby" Hayes of Plano; daughters, Helen Williams of Sherman and Ruby Hayes of Dallas; eight grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
