Thursday, March 28, 1929 pg. 1 Sherman Man Is Killed In Auto Sherman - Irwin Culver Harris, 36, a native of Sherman and prominent in Masonic circles, was found dead early Tuesday morning lying near his automobile in a vacant lot north of the North Travis street bridge. Death resulted from an injury to the spinal column incurred when Mr. Harris lost control of the automobile and drove over the curb and a steep terrace into the lot, in the opinion of physicians who examined the body. Mr. Harris evidently had been driving north toward his home when the left rear fender of the car struck a part of the bridge and moved the car sufficiently out of its course to prevent the driver from turning to the right around the curve in the road at t hat point. Mr. Harris apparently had gotten out of the car and fallen backward when he stepped out onto the ground. Find-A-Grave Irwin Culver Harris was born March 21, 1893, in Grayson County, Texas, to William Thomas Harris and Vallonia Eva "Vallie" Culver. Irwin stood 5ft. 8in. tall, had brown eyes, brown hair and a fair complexion. He was married to Mamie Lee Nelson, in Sherman, Grayson County, Texas. They had one son, Irwin Culver, Jr. As of June 1916, Irwin worked at the Commercial Bank in Sherman, as a bank teller. Irwin enlisted in the Texas Rangers as a REGULAR RANGER on December 14, 1917 through January 22, 1918 as a private in Co. I. That wasn't a very long time. Irwin Culver Harris died March 26, 1929 in Grayson County, Texas. He was buried in West Hill Cemetery, in Sherman, Grayson County, Texas.
