West Hill Cemetery Sherman, Texas Sherman Daily Democrat Monday, May 3, 1915 pg. 5 So far the body of the man who took carbolic acid here Friday and died soon afterward has not been identified. Paul Creager called up from Celina today and said the man had given the name of Harris, Davis and Harlan while there, telling one man he was from Honey Grove. To another he said he was from Oklahoma, and that his wife lived with Mr. and Mrs. Stillwell Pate, near Caddo, Oklahoma. The John C. Dannel Undertaking company is trying to get in communication with Mr. Pate. Mrs. John Boltzes of Wichita, Kansas, who sent several telegrams Saturday finally called S.L. Talley over long distance telephone, and after listening to a careful description of the man's body, said she is sure he is not her father, E.E. Davis, from whom she had not been able to hear for some time, and whom she thinks is in North Texas. Sherman Democrat Friday, June 1, 1915 pg. 1 MAY IDENTIFY DEAD MAN People Are Still Looking At Body At Dannel Undertaking Parlors It is barely possible that the dead man who has lain in the morgue room of the John C. Dannel Undertaking compnay on the south side of the square for a month - since April 30 - may yet be identified. Mr. T.J. Potter, who runs the interurban Rooming House upstairs on the southeast corner of the square over the interurban ticket office, looked at the dead man yesterday and thinks he recognized in him a man who married one of his nieces in Altus, Oklahoma, several years ago. Mr. Potter stated to a Democrat reporter this morning that if it is the body of the man he thinks it is, his name is Fred Graves and he left Altus, Oklahoma several years ago in search of work. Mr. Potter says he was a painter and a carpenter and his wife heard from him at Roaring Springs, Texas, and he wrote that he did not find work there and would go to WIchita Falls. Mr. Potter stated that since that time nothing had been heard from Mr. Graves. He stated that while he had not seen his nephew by marriage for more than two years, he believes he recognizes in the body of the man who killed himself here on April 30 at the Krause rooming house by taking carbolic acid, the nephew. He said his nephew by marriage had a brother who lived near McKinney and that he would write him and try to get him here to identify the body. Mr. Potter also added that the wife of Fred Graves had been visiting him and his family and had just left here Monday for her home in Altus. Mr. Dannel stated today that more than a hundred people had been to look at the body from outside points in an effort to identify the man, but so far no one has recognized him. The body is in a splendid state of preservation, and the man lies in the morgue room like some one asleep. He was a fine looking speciman of humanity, and much speculation has been indulged in as to why he has not been missed by some one. He came to Sherman about April 27, and registered as being from Wichita, Kansas, under the name of Fred Davis. Sherman Democrat Friday, June 25, 1915 pg. 5 The body of Fred Davis, the man who suicided here on April 30, in a room at the Krause Rooming House on West Houston street, and which has been in the morgue of John C. Dannel Undertaking company since that time, was buried in West Hill Cemetery this afternoon. The body was in perfect state of preservation and hundreds of people had looked at it, but no one had ever identified the man. He registered here from Wichita, Kansas under the name of Fred Davis, a couple of days before killing himself by taking carbolic acid.
