West Hill Cemetery Sherman, Texas The Denison Press Friday, July 25, 1958 pg. 2 EMPLOYEE OF CAGLE BAKERY KILLED IN HIGHWAY ACCIDENT Funeral services were held in Barrett funeral chapel in Sherman Sunday afternoon for Elbert Murray Gormley, 39, salesman and driver for Cagle baker in Denison. The Rev. James M. Simpson, Jr., pastor of the Key Memorial Methodist Church in Sherman, conducted the service and interment was in Memorial Park cemetery. Gormley died in Madonna hospital Friday night, July 18, a little after ten o'clock from injuried received a few minutes earlier in a highway accident. The accident occurred on Hwy. 75 where it intersects farm road 69, as Gormley was attempting to avoid a collision with a car which suddenly made a U turn from the opposite side of the highway into his path. The driver of the car was Mrs. Emma Baggett of Sherman, who was traveling north. Gormley's panel truck was traveling south. Highway Patrolman W.J. Morris reported that Mrs. Baggett made a U turn onto the southbound lane in front of Gormley. He his his brakes, Morris surmised, to avoid a collision, and caused his own vehicle to skid and overturn. Gormley was born and reared in Sherman and graduated from Sherman high school. He was a Methodist. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Rosa Gormley Chumbly, and his step-father, Mr. Chumbly, with whom he made his home, and a sister, Mrs. Jewel King, also of Sherman. Attending the services from Denison were Mr. and Mrs. Newton Cagle, Mr. and Mrs. N.E. Sherill, Mrs. Jess Harris, Mrs. E.M. Benedict, Carl Kebert, Bill Ford, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Butlan.
