Harold Lee Waw "Bookie", 74, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2013 in Durant, Oklahoma. Services were Monday morning at Dannel Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Christopher Lee Waw.   Burial followed service at West Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Waw was born February 7, 1939 in Sherman, son of Harvey Alexander Waw and Mary Lucille Fry Waw. Mr. Waw graduated from Southmayd High School in 1957, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served our country from 1960 to 1963. He was stationed at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, South Korea for 13 months, and France for 6 months. Mr. Waw was an electrician for 46 years and a member of various clubs including IBEW Local 20, Eagles FOE85 and the Amvets. He was an avid fisherman. Also, Mr. Waw was very proud of his heritage being a Cherokee.
Preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vaolele Waw; and brothers, Roy Waw and Gene Waw.
He is survived by his sister, Helen Golden of Ft Worth; sons, Claud Waw of Vian, Oklahoma and Christopher Waw of Sherman; daughter, LeighAnn Merchant of Sherman; 6 grandchildren; and  5 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services for Eddie Eugene "Gene" Waw will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at West Hill Cemetery. James Heffington of Forest Avenue Baptist Church will officiate. Military Honors will be provided by the Ft. Hood Honor Guard. Burial will follow at West Hill Cemetery in the Veterans Field of Honor. Mr. Waw passed away Friday, March 18, 2011 at Clyde W. Cosper Veterans Hospital in Bonham. Waldo Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Gene was born October 22, 1935 in Sherman, Texas, son of Harvey Alexander and Mary Lucille (Fry) Waw. He graduated from Southmayd School and attended East Texas State University at Commerce. He married Phyllis Ferguson December 31, 1955 in Denison, Texas. Gene loved his Country. He served for a total of 18 years. His basic training was at Ft. Bliss and jump school training was at Ft. Bragg. He was a member of the 11th Airborne Division serving in Germany, Beirut, Korea and Viet Nam. After returning from active service he serviced as an advisor to the Army Reserves in San Marcos, Texas and the National Guard in Winchester, Tennessee.
Gene loved to fish and watch CSI and Law and Order on television. He will be remembered for his good sense of humor and joke telling.
Preceded in death by his parents and brother Roy Alvin "Buddy" Waw, he is survived by his wife Phyllis; sons Eddie E. Waw, Jr. and wife, Trenna; Harvey A. Waw and John S. Waw and wife, Thelma, all of Sherman, 4 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brother Harold Lee "Bookie" Waw of Oklahoma, and sister, Helen Lois Golden of Ft. Worth, Texas.
