West Hill Cemetery Sherman, Texas Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Staton Sherman Daily Register Friday, September 14, 1900 Pg 2 ANOTHER DEADLY CHILL _______ THE LITTLE DAUGHTER OF MR. J.R. STATON, FARMER, DIED LAST EVENING. ____________ Within the last few days several deaths have occurred in and around Sherman in which the victims have had what has been termed congestive chills. The persistent and fatal appearance of these chills is alarming. Last Tuesday the little ten year old daughter of Mr. J. R. Staton who lives a few miles north of the city, had a slight chill. Last evening she felt another coming on, and the father, alarmed, hurried to the city for a physician, and though he went back post-haste with help, the little one had died. A well-known physician who has studied the situation and is alarmed at so many fatal terminations, said to a Register reporter today: "For the sake of humanity warn the people to look out for congestion on the second day after they have had a chill in an algied or mild form." This is a matter worth being careful about. Four of the five deaths within the last month have been little girls.
