SHERMAN - Funeral services for Richard "Dick" Rush were held Monday afternoon, June 14 at Forest Avenue Baptist Church. Rev. James Heffington and Dr. Richard D. Rush officiated with services under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow at West Hill Cemetery. Mr. Rush, 81, passed away Friday, June 11 at Hilltop Haven Nursing Home.
Richard Henry "Dick" Rush was born December 25, 1928 in Hanford, California, the youngest of 4 children born to Fred and Esther Hansen Rush. He attended school in Hanford, graduating from Hanford High School in 1946. After graduation Dick attended a junior college until he joined the Air Force in 1948. He served in the Air Force as a Staff Sergeant until 1954; being stationed at Perrin Air Force Base in Sherman and Webb AFB in Big Spring. It was while he was at Perrin AFB that he met the love of his life, Billie Jean Twyford. They were married on July 31, 1951 at Forest Avenue Baptist Church.
After leaving the military Dick worked for his father-in-law Gordon Duke at Duke Electric Company. He worked there until he took part ownership of the company, retiring in 1993. Dick was a member of Forest Avenue Baptist Church since 1951 serving as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon, Deacon Chair, and a member of the bass section in the choir.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Viola Wilson. Those left to celebrate his legacy are his wife of almost 59 years, Billie Jean; 4 children: Terri Clewis and husband Bryan of Fort Worth; Susan Martin and  husband, Paul of Gunter; Stacie McIntosh and husband, Bob, of Grand Prairie; and Richard Rush and wife, Donna, of Lubbock; and a son by choice, Cary McDougal and his wife Dianne of Dallas. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and  2 great-grandchildren by whom he was known as "Boppa"; by one sister Lucille Robb, and one brother Fred Rush; and one brother-in-law Gordon Ray Duke and wife Darlene of Sherman; and by several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Home Hospice of Grayson County,  Sherman, Texas.


Billie Jean Rush was born December 30, 1927, daughter of Bill Twyford and Ethel Mae Reese Twyford in Sherman, Texas.  She passed away on July 27, 2022 in Sherman.
Billie Jean was a graduate of Sherman High School.  She received her Bachelors degree from Hardin-Simmons University in 1950.   She was an elementary school teacher for over 30 years, retiring from Fairview Elementary in 1986.  Following her retirement she began blessing young  families and children, babysitting many very special kids.
She met the love of her life, Richard Henry "Dick" Rush, while working at Tappan Jewelry Store.  They were married on July 31, 1951 at Forest Avenue Baptist  Church in Sherman.  Billie Jean and Dick lived all the years of their marriage in Sherman except for 3 years while he was serving the last of his military career in Big Spring.  Billie Jean was a lifelong member of Forest Avenue Baptist Church.
Billie Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her bonus dad, Gordon Duke.
Those left to celebrate her legacy are her daughters, Terri and Bryan Clewis of Ft. Worth; Susan and Paul Martin of Sherman; Stacie and Bob McIntosh of Grand Prairie; and her son, Richard and Donna of Lubbock.  She had a son by choice, Cary and Diane McDougal, of Sherman.  
Known as "Doodah" by her grandchildren, Billie is survived by Shannon and Shawn Rennwanz; Dustin and Ashley McIntosh; Karley and Arturo Gonzalez; Caitlyn Rush; and Carson Rush.  She was blessed with great-grandchildren: Ryan and Mackenzie Ortiz; Rylee Rennwanz; Travis and Ella Martin; Addison and Kate McIntosh; Avery, Madison, and Emerson Nolasco; and Isaiah Gonzalez.
She is survived by one brother, Gordon and Darlene Duke of Sherman. She had one nephew, David Duke; and one niece, Dollie Duke.
Funeral services were held at Forest Avenue Baptist Church Tuesday afternoon, August 2, 2022.  Burial took place at West Hill Cemetery.
