Joan Francis (Ladd) Everheart died on September 6, in Madrid, Iowa. She was 95 years old and was a resident of the Madrid Home at the time of her death. Joan was born in Sherman, Texas, on February 12, 1919, to Dollie Mae (Pelley) and James Luther Ladd. Graveside services will be 10am Saturday September 20, 2014 at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman. Brother Jo Ed Furr will officiate.
Joan grew up on a farm west of town. Her father and grandfather, James Andrew Ladd, were long time farmers and stockmen.
Joan and her sister, Mary Louise, were close in age and spent happy years growing up in the country. They attended Sherman High School. Joan was a good student and loved to read and write. She was the editor of the school paper and a campus beauty. She dated one of the star football players, M.C. "Zeke" Everheart, who she would later marry. After graduation, Joan went on to Texas Women's College in Denton, Texas, majoring in journalism. Shortly after graduating, Joan and Zeke married on September 23, 1940, at her parents' home.
Tensions abroad would soon lead the U.S. into WW II. Zeke enlisted in the army and they lived in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, during his basic training. Before he shipped out, Zeke gave Joan a black Cocker Spaniel puppy they named Major. Joan and Major lived with her parents on the farm during the war years and she taught elementary school.
When Zeke returned to the states, the couple moved to Austin, Texas, where their daughter, Martha was born.

Joan was active in her church, enjoyed collecting antiques and reading.
She was preceded in death by her husband, sister, and parents. She is survived by her daughter, Martha Haynes of Slater, Iowa, grandchildren, Melissa Haynes also of Slater, Matt Haynes (Janet) and great grandchildren Harry Haynes and Ava Haynes of Ankeny, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to your favorite charity in Joan's name.~ ~ ~ Waldo Funeral Home
