The Denison Daily Herald Saturday, February 29, 1908 pg. 3 The Day At Sherman Prominent Citizen Dead R.R. Dulin Expires During Night in Bed at Home Sherman, Tex., Feb. 29 - The citizens of Sherman were shocked this morning at the report that R.R. Dulin, a prominent citizen, had been found dead in his bed at an early hour. While he had been in indifferent health for more than a year, he was up town yesterday until late in the afternoon and worked on his books until about 11 o'clock last night, and the news of his death came as a shock to his family and friends. Mrs. Dulin states that shortly after supper last evening Mr. Dulin said he had a little work to do and proceeded to work on his books and to answer some letters. She retired, leaving him writing on the typewriter. Shortly after this he retired, and seemed to be in his usual health and spirits. At 4 o'clock she awoke and discovered that her husband was very cold. Further investigation disclosed the fact that he was dead. The household was aroused and the neighbors notified. R.R. Dulin, who was sixty-one years of age at the time of his death, had been a citizen of Sherman for thirty-six years, and for years was one of the leading businessmen of North Texas. He conducted the largest furniture store in the city for many years, and later was in the undertaking business exclusively. Failing health caused him to dispose of his business interests, and a little more than a year ago he went to Eureka Springs, Arkansas and later to Baltimore, Maryland, returning much improved in health. He has always been identified with the progressive element of the city and took quite an interest in local politics. For a number of terms he served as councilman from the Third Ward, and was chairman of the Finance Committee during the entire time of his encumbency. He was born in Christian County, Kentucky and was married there to Miss Mattie Anderson in 1876, who with three children survives him. The children are: Mrs. L.C. Huston, Chickasha, Oklahoma; Mrs. George F. Lindsey, Jr., Sherman; Miss Roberta Dulin, Sherman. He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. M.L. McKenzie, Leroy, Illinois; Mrs. R.D. Smith, Muskogee, Oklahoma; Miss Lizzie Dulin, Sherman; Charles S. Dulin, San Angelo, Texas. Another brother, Dr. Frank Dulin of Denver, Colorado, lost his life a few months ago by being struck by a stray bullet from the pistol of a street duellist. The deceased had long been a member of the Christian Church, being an officer in the Central Christian Church of this city and the funeral will be under the auspices of the church, Rev. J.H. Fuller, the pastor, conducting the services tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon at the house, No. 434 South Elm Street. Mr. Dulin was a member of Sherman Camp No.9, W.O.W., the Fraternal Mystic Circle, The Home Circle, all insurance orders, and also carried several policies in old line companies.
