Piner The Denison Daily Herald Wednesday, June 3, 1908 pg. 7 Sherman, Texas, June 3 - A telephone message from Plano this morning announced the death of Mrs. Piner, wife of Prof. H.L. Piner, which occurred at their home in that city at 3 o'clock this morning. Mrs. Piner was well known in Sherman, where she resided for a number of years. Prof. Piner was formerly superintendent of the public schools of this city, and was later superintendent of the Blind and Deaf and Dumb Institutes at Austin, only recently resigning the place on account of the failing health of both himself and wife. Three weeks ago Prof. and Mrs. Piner came to Sherman with a view of again residing here, but before arrangements were completed Mrs. Piner took sick and they returned to Plano. The remains will be brought to Sherman tonight over the H. & T.C., arriving here at 10 o'clock, and the burial will take place in West Hill, following services tomorrow morning at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R.G. Piner on North Travis Street. The services will be conducted by Rev. J.L. Pierce, pastor of the Travis Street Methodist Church. Besides her husband, Mrs. Piner is survived by two sisters, Mrs. J.T. Anderson and Mrs. Laura Williams, both of Waco, who were at the bedside when the end came. Mrs. M.J. Piner of Denison, mother of Prof. Piner, and other Denison relatives will come over for the funeral. Mrs. Piner was a native of Alabama, but spent most of her life in Texas, and principally in Sherman and Denison. Death was caused from glandular tuberculosis. Mrs. Piner had been ill for a long time, and seriously so all this year, having undergone three operations in the vain hope of gaining relief. Mr. Piner has also been very ill recently and the shock of his wife's death has rendered his condition very serious. He will be unable to attend the funeral. Mr. and Mrs. S.P. King of Denison, the latter his sister, went to Plano this afternoon to be with Mr. Piner.
