Sherman Democrat April 10, 1994 A-10 Dr. James A. Vaughan Jr., 78-year-old retired physician of Lancaster, Calif., and formerly of Sherman died March 5 at his home in Lancaster. Private family graveside services were held March 19 in West Hill Cemetery. Dr. Vaughan was born in Sherman, the son of James Arthur Vaughan Sr. and Nola Vaughan. He graduated from Sherman High School in 1932. He married Bette Ruth Brecheen of Commerce. He was a jet fighter pilot during World War II and was one of the first pilots to take off from an aircraft carrier. He established a private practice in Dallas and later moved his practice to Southern California, retiring in 1987. Surviving are his son, James A. Vaughan III of Sherman; daughters, J.A.Marques of Burlingame, Calif., and Karen Cruson of Azle; and six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
