MORTUARY Walter F. Cole, 72, father of Bob Cole and brother of R.W. Cole of Gainesville, died at his home in the Cedar community in Grayson County Tuesday morning following an extended illness. He had been living in Texas for 20 years, having come here from New Mexico, where he had been engaged in the cattle business. He was a native of North Carolina. Surviving are 3 sons, John of Sherman; Creed of Cedar; and Bob of Gainesville; and a daughter, Mrs. Johnnie Holcomb of Sherman; as well as one brother, 5 sisters, and 15 grandchildren. Funeral services were held from the Cedar church Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Kirk M. Southmayd and Rev. J.W. Slagle of Key Memorial Methodist Church in Sherman, officiated. Burial was in Cedar cemetery. 1897 Sherman, Grayson Co., Texas City Directory: Cole, W.F., Tom Bean, R.F.D. No. 1; Farming, established 1897; Located in Grayson Co. 1872. Born in Stokes Co., North Carolina on July 2, 1857. Married Miss Qinnie Larimore on September 15, 1887. Wife born on July 8, 1871 in Bexas Co., Texas and died on May 30, 1901. Six children: 4 boys, George Randolph, Robert W., C.M., and John F.; 2 girls, Ethel E. and Alice M. Ida STATE OF TEXAS December 9th, 1874 I Hereby certify that W.F. Cole, a private of Captain W.J. Maltby's Co. E of the Frontier Battalion was musted into the State Service on the 6th day of June, 1874, and this day, honorably discharged. The said W.F. Cole was last paid by Capt. M.M. Kenney, QM to include the 31st day of August 1847, and has pay due him from that time to the present date. There is due said W.F. Cole the sum of $132.00.
