Oscar Lee Wetzel was born December 28, 1918, son of John Wiley Wetzel and Margaret Elizabeth Palmer Wetzel and passed from this life on Saturday, December 5, 2015 in Denison, Texas.
Oscar attended school in the Cedar community and was a graduate of Tom Bean High School in 1936.  Oscar married Mary Elizabeth Hash on December 24, 1946.  They were married 60 years until her death in April 2007.
Oscar was also preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Wesley Littrell in May 2010.
He is survived by 6 children: Joe and wife Pat; Lynne and husband Mike; Marc and wife Debbe; Bruce and wife Bobby; Sherri and husband Bruce; Mary Anne and husband Steve; 16 grandchildren: Jennifer Parrish (MIchael); Joseph Wetzel (Diane); Lynne Littrell; Brad Littrell (Jenny); Marcus Wetzel (Logan); Marshall Wetzel; Macy Wetzel; Chad Wetzel (Elsie); Paul Wetzel (Connie); Brian Burk (Angela); Rebecca Burk; Bryce Burk (Ashley); Nick Book (Courtney); Mikale Book; Hunter Book; and Levi Fuller; 11 great-grandhildren - Hannah Wetzel; Ben Wetzel; Jack Littrell; Madilyn Littrell; Lillian Littrell; Kylie Wetzel; Marleigh Wetzel; Haley Wetzel; Reed Wetzel; Braxton Book; and Bellamy Book; and his friend and care-taker, Marianne Daniels.
Farming was his passion.  He was a diligent steward.  He enjoyed the rising and the setting of the sun each day and watching it from his home and family farm in the Cedar community.  He was a faithful member of the Methodist church, Cedar United Methodist Church, and later First United Methodist Church of Tom Bean.  Oscar was cherished by his church family and friends.  His steadfast faith and trust in the Lord were an encouragement to all who met him.  Even in his last hours on this earth, Oscar was clapping his hands and singing hymns of praise to his Lord and Saviour.
Funeral services to celebrate Oscar's life were Tuesday, December8 at the First Methodist Church in Tom Bean with  Revs. Jerry Colgrove and Donny Haywood serving as officiants.  Interment followed at Cedar Cemetery with grandsons Joseph Wetzel, Brad Littrell, Marcus Wetzel, Chad Wetzel, Brian Burk, Nick Book, Marshall Wetzel, Paul Wetzel, Bryce Burk and Hunter Book serving as pallbearers.
Services were under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home.
