Floyd W. Duffey

Floyd W. Duffey's father was John Crayton Duffey (1844-1927), a farmer born in Griffen, Spalding County, Georgia. He married Sarah E. Lassiter at the age of 23 in Tallapoosa County, Alabama. Floyd (1871-1933) was their first-born child, followed by his younger sister, Izalia (1879 - 1905); both children were born in Tallapoosa County, Alabama.  In September 1905 Sarah Lassiter Duffey died and was buried at Forest Home Methodist Church Cemetery at Boaz, Marshall County, Alabama.
J.C. Duffey married a second time to Mary Jane Patton Fowler (1874-1943) in Marshall County, Alabama in 1906.  Throughout his life, J.C. Duffey continued to live Alabama and his occupation was that of a farmer.  Dying in 1927, he was buried in Hillcrest Cemetery located in Boaz, Marshall County.

Floyd, the eldest child, married at the age of 19 in December 1890 to Willia Genetha Morton (1875-1913) in Marshall County, Alabama; to this union two sons were born.  Creighton Wanless Duffey (1894-1936) was born on their 4th wedding anniversary in Marshall County, Alabama.  Other than the family's residence in Denison, Grayson County, Texas, Creighton lived in Alabama and Tennessee, dying in Cincinnati, Ohio.

By late 1897 Floyd and his small family were living in Denison, Grayson Co., Texas. The local paper carried a notation in the "Society" column that the couple and their small son had returned from a visit to Alabama. (The Sunday Gazetteer, Sunday, September 5, 1897, pg. 3)
F.W. Duffey was very sick, so sick, that his father-in-law was called to his bedside from Guntersville, Marshall Co., Alabama where both the Duffey and Morton families lived.

In the spring of 1900 F.W. Duffey & Co. opened a grocery store at the old stand of S.C. O'Dair.  The paper noted that they were experienced grocerymen located at 429 W. Main St.

In late 1901, approximate one and a half years after opening, T.F. Johnson purchased the Duffey stock of groceries in preparation of opening his business in that location.  (The Sunday Gazetteer, Sunday, December 1, 1901)  Among the guests at the wedding of W.R. Tyler and Miss Emma Baker were listed "...Mr. and Mrs. F.W. Duffey...of Ft. Worth." (The Sunday Gazetteer, Sunday, December 29, 1901)

F.W. and wife, Willia returned to Alabama where Willia died July 9, 1913 and was buried at Hillcrest Cemetery in Boaz, Marshall County.  On June 23, 1914 F.W. was married to Irma Kate Benton in Etowah, Gadsden Co., Alabama by W.B. Sneed, minister.

For 15 years he operated a grocery business in Boaz, Marshall Co., Alabama.  A letter to his customers was printed in the local paper notifying his friends and customers that he and his wife were leaving on May 1, 1920 for Ponoma, California, a trip taking about 30 days.

By 1925 Floyd W. & Irma were living at 1415 Montecito Way in San Diego, California; he was manager for Waite's Inco. (1925 San Diego, California City Directory).
