Mordecai Mortimer "Moss" Scholl was born 29 June 1864 in Williamsburg, Callaway Co., Missouri, son of Cyrus Rector Scholl Sr. M.D. and Mary Jane Maughs. He arrived in Denison from Missouri with his brother Charles after 1880. 
Scholl was known as the "Snake Editor" because of his slim appearance and his scathing editorials.  He also had a penchant for dueling.  He had flowing white sideburns, wore a rose in his lapel, carried a cane and was noted for his hats - stovepipe, derby, or Panama.
Mordecia Mortimer Scholl married Euphrates Andrews in 1908 in Dallas, Texas. Euphrates Andrews was born 8 April 1875 in Fayette, Howard Co., Missouri, daughter of Kimborough Martin Andrews and Mary Arthusa.

Pioneer Editor Dies in Denison

Denison, Texas - Jan. 18 (INS) - Funeral services will be held tomorrow for Mortimer M. Scholl, 87, pioneer Texas newspaper editor, who died yesterday in Denison after a long illness.
Scholl's newspaper career in Texas included work on papers in Dallas and Denison.
Many colorful tales were told about Scholl, and he reportedly fought several shotgun duels in the streets of Denison to back up his editorial policies during the hedey of the Texas frontier.
For years his throat had borne a scar allegedly put there by an irate newspaper reader.

Euphrates A. Scholl passed away at the Madonna Hospital in Denison, Grayson Co., Texas on 12 June 1967 at the age of 92.
Her son, M. M. Scholl Jr, was the informant.
Her remains were removed to Fayette, Mo.
She is buried in the Fayette Co. Cenetery
