Price-Shaw
Dogtrot Cabin

The following information has yet to be proven  Census and other vital records
show that the Price family resided in Collin Co., Texas in 1880.

The Price family came to Texas from Holland and built their log cabin home about 1870.  This Texas Dogtrot cabin was built about 1860 by Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Price, located six miles northwest of Bells, Texas on Dugan Chapel Road near the Old Indian Cemetery and about two and half miles from Ambrose.  The house was made of logs with chinking between; originally the chinking was made of clay placed between the logs so it could be pushed out during the summer to allow for air to circulate through the house.  At one time there was a bedroom upstairs; the stairway led from the northwest corner of the loft bedroom down to the dog trot. Beds were built into the corners of each bedroom. The cabin had two porches.
The downstairs had 4 rooms and a rock fireplace, which was the only source of heat.
Originally the cabin had a shed kitchen.
One of Jeff Price's sons married a young girl from the Shaw family. In 1908 the Shaws bought the land and cabin.

Originally the center section was just a dirt floor covered by the roof where animals could take shelter during bad weather.
The cabin was donated to Frontier Village by Mr. and Mrs. Richard Beal in 1984.
