Family
of
S. R. Penn

Sanford R. Penn, Elizabeth Hardin Penn, first child

"I do not know which one of their children is in the photograph but they are married.  Sanford R.  Penn married Elizabeth Hardin/Harding in Green Co., Kentucky.  One born 1822 (sr) and the other born 1824.  Guess that is their first child.  Their third child was William Perry "Bill" Penn.  Their last child, Samuel Brown Penn, born in Texas.  Elizabeth Hardin Penn married Horace Boyd Lindsey in Grayson County, Texas in 1867.  She is buried in the Lindsey family plot in the Kentuckytown cemetery.

S. B. Penn (1861-1945), her son and my greatgrandfather, is buried in Shawnee, Oklahoma in a Penn/Enos plot at Fairview Cemetary.  Samuel Brown Penn married Martha A. "Mattie" Morgan in Clay Co., Texas October 24, 1885.  By 1909 he and his family had moved to Shawnee, Oklahoma.  He and his wife are buried in Fairview Cemetery in Shawnee, Pottawatomie Co., Oklahoma.  (FAG #100141415)

I wish I knew what happened to Sanford R. Penn but he died early in Civil War after joining up in Texas.  I believe he might have died in Oklahoma Territory."

Top Left: Elizabeth Hardin Penn Lindsay, mother of Samuel Brown Penn
Botton Left: S. R. Penn and family members
Bottom Right: Martha A. ? Morgan, mother of Martha Amelia Morgan Penn

"My grandmother, Elizabeth Penn, is the young girl on the left.  Her sister, Arlene Penn, is on the right.  Right photograph - her father Samuel Brown Penn and his wife, Mattie Morgan Penn.  Somewhere is a story my mother wrote about her grandfather and grandmother growing up in Texas.  I also have a series of stories that I think are in my greatgrandmother's handwriting about growing up in that area of Texas as a child and how her father came to Texas in the first place.  Samuel Brown Penn (called S. B.) was, of course, the son of Sanford R. and Elizabeth Hardin Penn Lindsey."

"Arlene Penn married Leon Toliver (Tol) Boswell and they lived in Brownsville.  There are many Boswells still in the Harlingen/Brownsville area.  I believe their youngest son and last surviving member of his generation - Sam Penn Boswell may have the family Bible. There is even a Sam Penn Boswell the 3rd now."
