THE ORR FAMILY OF GRAYSON COUNTY, TEXAS

The Orr family began with Thomas Orr who was born on 19 December 1782 in Bellaghy, Northern Ireland.

He came to Charleston, South Carolina from Belfast, Norther Ireland on 32 August 1804. He later settled in Powdersville, Anderson County, South Carolina.

About 1814 he married Sarah Wilson.  She was born on 1 July 1796 in Georgia and died on 25 October 1865 in Anderson County, South Carolina.  Sarah and Thomas had 12 children.

One of the sons, Thomas Caswell Orr, was the one who settled in Luella, Grayson County, Texas. He was born on 27 December 1829 in Powdersville, Anderson County, South Carolina. He married Hannah Harrison Golden in about 1855.

While still in South Carolina, Thomas Caswell and Hannah had two sons.

1. John Dean Orr - born 29 January 1861 in Piedmont, South Carolina; died 18 May 1943 in Luella, Texas
    He married Carrie Blanche Mullins.

2. Carl Jamison Orr - born 28 December 1866 in Anderson County, South Carolina; died 14 May 1924.
    He married Jessie Gattis.

The earliest census record finds Thomas Caswell and Hannah in Luella in 1880.

Their other children were born in Luella, Texas

3. Thomas Taliaferro Orr - born 5 August 1877; died 28 January 1953 in Grand Prairie, Texas.
    He married Dora Johnson.

4. Lula Istalena Orr - born in 1871; died in 1921.
    She married William Bratton Dickson.

5. Adalede Orr - born 9 November 1874 in Texas; died 27 December 1904 in Texas.

John Dean Orr married Carrie Blanche Mullins on 12 November 1884.  She was born 12 October 1866 in Corinth, Mississippi and died 2 March 1955 in Luella, Grayson County, Texas.

Married: Stella Mae Sanders
Both are buried in San Bruno Cemetery, San Mateo, California
4. EULALIA "EULA" SAMANTHA ORR
Born: 16 October 1892 in Luella, Texas
Died: 29 August 1992 in Sherman, Texas
Married: James Augustus Hall.  He died 13 August 1923 in a tractor/truck accident in Luella, Texas
Both are buried in Holloway Cemetery, Luella, Texas
5. ROSCOE ORR
Born: 14 April 1895 in Luella, Texas
Died: 15 September 1965 in Sherman, Texas
Married: Willie B. Laney; later divorced

Never married
He did continue to live on the family farm until his death. Then the property was sold. Hoyt Orr died without a will. The land sale was a incredible source of genealogy information since the proceeds were divided among numerous family members.
