Dr. Eugene L. Hailey Denison Herald
20 September 20, 1953 DR. EUGENE HAILEY 50-YEAR VETERAN IN GENERAL PRACTICE A veteran medical man, Dr. Eugene L. Hailey has been practicing for nearly 50 years and was selected by the Grayson Medical Society as its nominee for family doctor of the year in March. The medical profession throughout the state and nation sponsor the family doctor of the year competition to stimulate continued interest in the general practitioner and the important health service he renders. Dr. Hailey, who is rounding out his 47th year in the general practice of medicine, didn't win the state-wide title, but his nomination indicated the high esteem that fellow doctors of this area hold for him. After completing his training, he served for a brief period in East Texas, later opening his first office at Stratford, Oklahoma in 1907. He moved to Celina a few years later and was there when he joined the World War I Army Medical Corps. Returning to Celina after the war, Dr. Hailey remained there until 1926 when he came to Denison. He holds the all-time attendance championship in the Lions Club. During his long career he estimates that he has ushered approximately 3,500 babies into the world. Mrs. Hailey is the former Miss Gretta Goodwin of Stratford, Oklahoma, and the couple has a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Graves, who teaches art at Central Ward School. They are also rearing 2 of Mrs. Hailey's nieces, Nancy Moore, 5, and Tana Moore, 7. They live at 1105 West Bond.
