Gilliam Goree was the son of Redden Goree (1802 - 1843) and Sarah
"Sallie" Thompson "1809 - 1843". He was from Newberry District, South
Carolina and was the only member of his family to migrate to Texas.
Robert Goree married Frances "Fannie" Elizabeth Johnson on January 22, 1865 in Georgia. After his wife's death in 1865, he and his son moved to Fannin County, Texas in about 1870, later moving to Grayson County, Texas. Gilliam Goree, widower, married his widowed sister-in-law, Nannie
Rebecca Johnson Sanford, on January 28, 1875 in Grayson County, Texas.
Robert died in 1911; his wife, Nannie, died in 1917. Both are
buried in the Virginia Point Cemetery.
