Jackson Elvis Hendricks was born July 23, 1867 in Sherman, Grayson County, Texas, the son of Jesse Elvis Hendricks (1837-1920), a farmer and civil engineer, born in Kentucky, and Susan Matilda Dumas Hendricks (1945-1935), born in Alabama or Mississippi.

At age 3, Jack was living in Precinct 1, Grayson, Texas, with his parents and two siblings: Ona, 5; and Mary, 1. Also in the household was William Weir, a 27-year-old married white school teacher who boarded with the family. [U.S. Census]

In the June 1880 census at the age of twelve, he is still living with his family in Precinct 1, Grayson County, Texas. His occupation is "laborer." Also in the household are his parents; sister, Ona, 14; sister, Mollie J., 11; sister, Helen D., 9; and Andrew Briscoe, 24, a laborer and servant. Living nearby is the Uriah Hendricks family: Uriah, 32, head of household, born ca 1848 in Texas; Margaretta, 29, wife; Thomas S., 10 son; John B., 6, son;  Rutha F., 3, daughter; Phillip Briscoe, 21, brother-in-law; Ruth Briscoe, 62, mother-in-law.

At age 26, Jack Hendricks married Ida Mae Daughtry Kincaid (1876–-1970)  on March 13, 1893 in Denison, Grayson County, Texas. She was sixteen years old. The couple had six children - five girls and a boy.  Ida was the daughter of William Major Daughtry and Sarah M. Treece.  When her mother, Sallie, died in August 1876 in Tipton, Tennessee, Ida was adopted by the Kincaids.

In 1900 Jack is a "farm manager" living next door to his father and mother, outside of Denison, Grayson County, Texas.

Advertisement, May 1908: “For at home Portraits phone Hendrick’s; New phone, Rural Route 6–5 rings, Sherman. To see my work is to appreciate it, and it is no trouble for me to call and show you samples. In May and June 1908, Hendricks made photos documenting flood damage to the Frisco and MKT railroads, on the Red River.

1930 US Census
Jackson E. Hendricks Jr., is living in San Bernardino, California, with his wife Edna, and working at the Santa Fe Railroad shops. 

Jack's mother, Susan Matilda Dumas Hendricks, had been living with him for almost ten years when she died on her 90th birthday on August 1, 1930. He accompanied the body back to Sherman, Texas for burial at West Hill Cemetery with his father, Jesse.

Jack died at San Bernardino, California on September 10, 1958. He is 92 years old. Ida lived on in San Bernardino until November 14, 1970.
