The Denison Press Friday, June 25, 1948 ASHBURN FAMILY HAS SERVED PUBLIC HERE FOR 64 YEARS For more than 64 years the name of Ashburn has been associated in this area with food and dairy products, until the small beginning back when the father of the sons nwo running the business located in several north Texas cities, was a young man. W.L. Ashburn, Sr., started in a small way in the dairy business in Denison, prior to that conducted a grocery store in the Preston community. He later came to Denison and opened a dairy and ice cream business. From the first the founder worked on the basis that only the very best in merchandise was to be sold and consequently he made fine milk cows a study and the handling of products an art. Some years back, after having placed the business on a solid footing and having trained his sons to carry on, the senior partner retired and took it easy. He deceased in 1939 having 6 sons to survive and carry on the business. The business spread until plants are located in Denison, Sherman, Dallas, Ft. Worth, Mineral Wells, Arlington, and Weatherford, with the sons in charge. Here in Denison, W.L., Jr. carried on the business. He is now housed in one of the most modern plants as to grontage and equipment in any part of the state, the cost running over $50,000. Ashburn Family |
