Sexton
Reynoe Williams, the son of Elihu
Williams and Lucinda Owens,
was born in Walker County, Georgia on
July 17, 1845. The family home
place
was placed in Whitfield County,
Georgia when the county was formed in
1853.
Sexton
served in Company A, 36th (Broyles?)
Georgia Infantry from
the 15th of January 1862 until the
22nd of July 1863 during the Civil
War.
One of the major battles in which he
bought was the Battle of
Champion's
Hill near Vicksburg, Mississippi. He
was promoted to 3rd Corporal
before
December 1862. He became a
prisoner of war in Vicksburg,
Mississippi.
He was one of seven Williams?s
brothers who served in the Civil War.
He
was released from prison on the 22nd
of July 1863 and returned to
Whitfield
County, Georgia where he married Mrs.
Susan Moore.
Sometime
between 1886 and 1888, he moved his
family to Denison,
Grayson County, Texas. He worked as a
local engineer in Denison and
lived
on Coffin Street.
On August
1st 1888, his twin brother Harris
Pitsford Williams (my
great grandfather - living in
Chattooga County, Georgia) was on his
way
to find Sexton when he died on a train
in Memphis, Tennessee.
Sexton
Reynoe Williams and Susan Moore had
seven children (only
three have been identified):
1. William Williams was born in
February of 1881,
in Georgia. He
died between 1920-1922. We believe
that his wife was Bertha Unknown and
that
he had a son named Clifford.
2. John R. Williams was born
September 1883 in
Georgia. He
married Della (last name unknown) and
they had two known daughters:
a. Juanita Eldora Williams,
b. 30 January
1911; d. 8 April 1939,
buried Fairview Cemetery, Grayson
County, TX; m. Jessie Earl Noel.
Their
children were:
i. Lois Faye Noel, b: 12
July 1924,
Grayson County, TX
ii. Jessie Earl Noel
b. Evelyn Williams,
abt. 1917, Grayson County, TX
3. Henry C.
Williams (twin to John R.), born
September 1883, Georgia.
In 1920, he was married to a Jessie
- and they had one
daughter:
a. Martha Williams, age 7
Beatrice
Williams, a granddaughter of Sexton
and Susan Williams,
was born May 12, 1905 and died
September 17, 1964 in Denison, Grayson
County, Texas. She was living with her
grandfather in 1910 &
1920.
Beatrice's parents have not been
proved, but it is believed they had
died
before 1910. Beatrice married Carl
Shipley April 21, 1921. Their
children
include:
a. Emily M. Shipley, b.
December 1, 1922;
d. December 13 1997 in
Grayson County, TX.
She married T. H. Ruth December 25,
1941.
b. Leo Shipley, born
about 1825, Grayson County, Texas
c. Neva Dell Shipley,
b. June 27, 1927 in Grayson County,
Texas
