Historical edition - James Vincent Hutton

Vincent Hutton was born in 1811 in Harris County, Indiana.  Mrs. Sarah Barnard Hutton was born in 1822 in Conway County, Arkansas.  They married in 1838.

Mr. Hutton sold his Peter's Colony grant in Tarrant County during the Civil War.  The family moved to Whitesboro and Mr. Hutton owned a mercantile business in Whitesboro and resided in Whitesboro by 1867.  Before 1870 Mr. Hutton sold his buildings in Whitesboro and bought a farm about three miles southeast of Collinsville.  Sarah Hutton died in 1879 and is buried in Collinsville Cemetery.  Mr. Hutton died January 13, 1891 at his home outside of Collinsville and was buried under an apple tree in his own orchard.

Vincent Hutton Was Early Businessman

The autobiography of Vincent James Hutton states that he was "in the mercantile business in Whitesboro." Records show that his residence in Whitesboro was about the year 1867.

He sold his Peters Colony grant in Tarrant County and lived in Cooke County during or shortly after the Civil War.

Writing on the back of the old photograph indicates it was taken in 1888. It also states that he was the first tax collector-assessor of Tarrant County and had lived in the county seven years before it was organized.

Upon disposing of his property on the Red River, which was purchased by the Washington family, Hutton decided to go into the business world.  It is not known how much property he owned in Whitesboro but when Mrs. Roxie Brown and Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Henry bought the old Fred Suggs place on West Main Street, they found, according to the abstract on this property, that the Hutton family had held title to at least that lot.

The late Mrs. Brown was a granddaughter of Mr. Hutton; and Mrs. Ruth Henry, who still resides at the place, is a great-granddaughter.

Before 1870, the Huttons had sold their holdings in Whitesboro and bought a farm about three miles southeast of Collinsville, where they built a house and continued to reside until their deaths.

Mrs. Sarah Barnard Hutton was born in Conway County, Arkansas in 1822 and married James Vincent Hutton in Arkansas in 1838; she died in 1879.  Mr. Hutton was born in 1811 in Harrison County, Indiana and died January 13, 1892 at his home near Collinsville.  He was buried under an apple tree in his own orchard.
