Samuel
Hanna was born in Shelby Co., Ky., Aug 8,
1834. His parents were born also in Ky., all
of his family were farmers and he was raised
on a farm.
The
schools
of this portion of Ky. were very good and
Mr. Hanna received a good education,
graduating at the High School. Mr. Hanna
remained in Ky. until 1857, then he went to
Nebraska and remained until the war. He then
returned to Shelby Co., remaining there
until 1870.
He
then
removed to Kansas City and engaged in the
Dry Goods business, remaining there until
Oct. 1872, when he came to Denison, Texas.
He at once engaged in the wholesale grocery
business, firm name: Hanna, Platter &
Waples; remained in this business until June
1, 1887. While Mr. Hanna was in this
business it increased from $40,000 per year
to $600,000 the last year he was n this
business.
Was elected
Mayor of Denison March 1887 and President
of the First National Bank of Denison July
1, 1887.
Married Shelby
Co., Ky., 1865, to Miss Brown.
