BROGDON & BAKER Families ![]()
William H. Brogdon, one of the original Peters Colonists, along with his wife, Nancy J. Sturdivant and several children, came to Texas in 1839 and settled on a 613 acre site east of Sherman. He bought and sold several parcels of his land during the following years. In 1853, he purchased some adjacent parcels of land in the Joseph Strickland Survey, located further west. The old Brogdon homeplace is the site of the Brogdon Cemetery. ![]()
John T. Brogdon, son of William H. Brogdon and Nancy J. Sturdivant, was the second of their children to be born in Texas. He married Minnie Rice Burgess August 27, 1885 in Grayson County, Texas. John died approximately 1890 of undulant fever. John T. Brogdon and Minnie Rice Brugess were:

Wid Baker and his wife,
Ann Banks, and their children came from
Madison County, Arkasas and setteled in the
Denison area in 1874. Between 1884 and 1888,
they returned to Arkansas due to Ann's failing
health. Ann and an infant died in Arkansas and
are buried near Hindsville. Shortly
afterwards, William married Melissa Boren and
returned to Grayson County, Texas. Melissa
died August 1, 1899. William raised his
children, never marrying again.
