ADAMSON FAMILY COLLINSVILLE TIMES
February 18, 1932 BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES The late Judge J. Q. Adamson of Sherman was a pioneer citizen of Collinsville. He was born in Collinsville in 1862. He attended the little subscription school taught by Tom Hudson where he was associated with Gov. Bill Murray until Gov. Murray moved away from Collinsville. Judge Adamson, after finishing his education at Collinsville attended Sam Houston Normal at Huntsville, Texas. He graduated from that institution in 1883. After his graduation he taught school at Dodd City, and later at Bowie, Texas. Judge Adamson received his bar affiliation in August 1889. Judge H.O. Head granting his license. He immediately began his career as an attorney. He served as assistant County Attorney of Grayson County under Judge Silas Hare, Charlie Vowell, Nubert Bookout, Toy Finley and Joe P. Cox. He was serving in this capacity at the time of his death, September 20, 1931. Mrs. Adamson, who is also a native of Collinsville, was Miss Cora Jones, daughter of William Jones who came to Collinsville in 1860. In reminiscing, Mrs. Adamson said during her first years at school in Collinsville, she attended what was known as the Allred School which was located two miles north of Collinsville. She said to get to school she had to walk through grass that was as high as her head, and sometimes during bad weather when the creeks were up she was carried across the mud by Cicero Jones, uncle of Bill Murray. Judge Adamson had four brothers and two sisters who also lived in Collinsville: Representative J.W.Adamson of Denison; W.H.Adamson, principal of Oak Cliff High School, Dallas; Major George Adamson, Secretary to Gen. John J. Pershing, Washington, D.C.; and Tom Adamson of Houston; Mrs. Sid Armstrong of Ada, Okla. and Mrs. Mollie Roberson of California. Mrs. Adamson's brother, Judge Benn Jones is Chief Justice of the Court of Civil Appeals, Dallas, Texas. Judge Adamson was active in the interest of public affairs of the County, State and Nation. He was an active member of the Travis Street Methodist Church, Sherman, Texas. He was a member of the Gideons, going into all parts of Grayson County holding religious services. Surviving Judge Adamson are his wife, Mrs.
Cora Adamson; two sons,
J.Q.Adamson Jr., Freeport, Texas; Charles Adamson of Elsa, Texas;
two daughters, Mrs. Gaylor Blue, Sherman and Miss Edith Adamson,
Beaumont,
Texas; three grandchildren, Gaylor Blue Jr.; Martha Ann and Gordon
Adamson.

H Adamson, principal of Oak Cliff
High School, Dallas, Texas was born in a log house one and one-half
miles
south of Collinsville in 1864. He attended school at the Adamson
School House. When he was nine years old he moved with his family
to Collinsville where he entered school, finishing high school
there.
Mr. Adamson attended the S.H.N. Institute and the Collinsville
Academy.
He has long been associated with schools and school teaching, serving
as
teacher at Welch School house, Elmont, Basin Springs, Sunset, Alvord,
Decatur
and his present position in Oak Cliff. He has lived in Dallas for
thirty years. In 1891 he married Miss Mary Webster.
COLLINSVILLE TIMES
February 18, 1932 BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES Jake Walter Adamson, the fourth son of Jonathan and Margaret Adamson; was born and reared in Collinsville. He received his education here and at the State Teachers' College, Huntsville. Mr. Adamson was married to Miss Alice Williams, of Whitesboro. He now has two grandchildren, Victor H. Jr. and Miss Margaret Adamson of Sherman. Mr. Adamson taught school at several places for a time and was principal or superintendent of several of these. He moved to Denison about twenty-five years ago and has been manager of Draughon's Practical Business College continuously since that date. Two years ago he was elected State Representative without opposition, place two, from Grayson County, and made an efficient and capable Representative. His friends predict that he will have no opposition for his second term. Collinsville and the western part of
Grayson County are justly proud
of the Adamson boys, and no one has more true and loyal friends than
J.W.
He comes from a family of teachers and has taught so long that he
numbers
by the hundreds successful men and women who were formerly his
students.
