Several of the stones
were mentioned in a list published
when the cemetery was divided and
broken up in 1966. Developers wanted
a large apartment complex built on
the hill. it was a large cemetery at
one time with many field stone
markers and wooden markers.See
history below this census.
Broken
stone died 4 Jan 1891

Chisholm,
Martha C
Witten was
moved to the Akers cemetery in 1966,
Born 19 Mar 1853 in Missouri and
died in Sherman, Grayson County, Texas 7
Jul 1876. Spouse William Henry Chisholm, married 1872.
Children: George Washington Chisholm
1873-1967, Walter
Perry Chisholm 1876-1936. Their mother died just
a few months after the birth of Walter
Chisholm.
Decker, Sarah Lavina, born in 26
Sep 1863 Sherman, Grayson County, Texas
and died 18 Sep 1892- Sherman, Grayson
County, Texas. Sarah was the daughter
of Hezekiah Ladd & Lavina
Mason Ladd.
She married John Calvin Decker 18 May
1881 in Elmont, Grayson County, Texas.
He was b 1859- and died in Washington
County, Arkansas in 1924. Their children
were, Vessie Monettie Decker 1882,
Arthur Henry Clay Decker 1887, and
Ernest Ethridge Decker 1889.
She is mentioned in the list by the
Sherman Daily Democrat, 1966, so she had
a tombstone at that time. I cannot find
if she was moved. There are no Deckers
or Ladds in Akers Cemetery. Likely she
was left in Witten Cemetery and the
stone since lost. If she was moved
in 1966, they would have taken her
stone, so I think she might have been in
the Witten Family grave areas that were
not moved. Read the history of the
Witten cemetery below on this page.
