Bates 6 October 1896 - 1 December 1969 Pet Wimberly Bates 3 April 1899 - 3 June 1993 wed 3 April 1918 Dalton Lee "Dee" Bates 27 December 1930 - 6 March 1999 James Leo Bates, 97, of Sadler, Texas was called home to his Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 28, 2923. Leo was born on May 10, 1926 in Tioga, Texas, son of Rev. James Dewey and Pet WImberly Bates. He was a member of Union Street Church of Christ in Whitesboro. He enjoyed painting, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. Leo was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Phyllis White; and brothers George Bates and Dalton Bates. He is survived by his son, Richard Anthony Bates of Sadler; son, James Leroy Bates of Carrolton; daughter, Debbie Mills of Angleton, Texas; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other loving fa mily and friends. Graveside services honoring Leo were held Thursday afternoon, June 1, 2023 at Oakwood Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Rick Carney.
