Bates, 92, were held Monday in Huff Funeral Home Chapel, Whitesboro, with Rev. Joe Patterson officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Whitesboro. He died Friday, February 18, 2005 in Texoma Health Care, Sherman. He was born February 10, 1913 in Willis, Oklahoma, son of John N. and Nellie Gill Bates. He was a retired farmer and carpenter. He served 6 years in the National Guard. He is survived by his son, Jerry Bates of Sadler; daughters, Wanda Southard of Perrin; Darlene Warden of Grand Prairie; Patsy Cockerham of Whitesboro; brother, J.W. Bates of San Antonio.
