1969 Dr. Wiliam Rufus Younger, prominent figure in Whitesboro's past, was buried Tuesday afternoon in Whitesboro Cemetery with Masonic Rites. Dr. Younger, 81, died Monday at his home at 619 E. Main St. A native of this city, he was graduated fromWhitesboro schools and Texas A&M University. For 53 years he was a veterinarian and active civic leader. Of the 55 years he held membership in the Masonic Lodge, all but 4 were served as a Shriner. Also, Dr. Younger served 16 years as Mayor of this city. Funeral services were conducted in Richards chapel. Rev. Harold Watson, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiated and was assisted by Rev. Bob Wade, pastor of the North Avenue Baptist Church. Dr. Younger was born February 6, 1888, son of Dr. and Mrs. R.N. Younger. He married Ruth Harris on October 7, 1913 in Abbot. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Among the survivors are his widow; four sons, John Nat Younger of Houston; Billy Joe Younger of Whitesboro; Charles L. Younger of Houston; and Dr. Jack Younger of Amarillo; a daughter, Mrs. Kathryn Holley of Whitesboro; and 11 grandchildren.
