Whitesboro Floyd Edward Thompson 1889 - 1945 Hattie Maude Thompson 1889 - 1953 Floyd
Edward Thompson was born April 8, 1889, the fourth son of James William
Thompson and Julia Esther Thompson. He grew up on the family farm
outside of Grapevine, Texas. The family later moved to another
farm in southern Denton County, Texas, which was located on Simmons
Rd.; they lived close to other family members who came from Tennessee
with the Thompson family - Boyd, Covington Dyer. The old farm now
lies at the bottom of Grapevine Lake. Floyd and Emma, his first wife, were married January 1910; Emma passed away about 1915. Floyd registered in the World War I draft but was not called up for service. He married Hattie Maude Gennings in Whitesboro, Texas on November 26, 1917. They had 3 children - Nelda, Charles and Louise. The family lived on Jordon St. in Whitesboro; Floyd worked in the oil fields as a roughneck until the beginning of World War II. He then took a job at the Mare Island Shipyards in Vallejo, Solano County, California. Floyd was accidentally run over by a military jeep and passed away at Mare Island Navy Hospital on January 11, 1945. His remains were shipped back to Texas via train. His funeral was held at the Whitesboro Methodist Church with Bro. Craig and Bro. Mays officiating. Interment followed at Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro.
