Doris Virginia Acuff Thompson, 92, passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2013 in Abilene.  A graveside service for family and close friends took place at Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro, Texas the following Sunday afternoon.
Doris was born September 24, 1921 at home between Burkburnett and Iowa Park, Texas. She graduated from Iowa Park High School in 1939 and received an Associate's degree from Hardin Junior College in Wichita Falls, Texas.  Doris married James R. Thompson on December 18, 1941 and raised 4 children in Ponca City, Oklahoma and then Houston, Texas.  She moved to Abilene in 1990 to be close to some of her children and grandchildren.  She had a great talent for sewing and enjoyed attending events put on by the Woman's Club of Abilene.
Nana was a sweet and loving woman who would do anything for her family and friends.  She loved teddy bears and had quite a collection in her home.  She enjoyed attending Bible Study Fellowship in Houston and Abilene and had a quiet and strong faith.  She was a member of Highland Church of Christ.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Randolph and Lila Acuff; her husband; brother, J.W. Acuff; and sister, Jonell Maier.
Survivors include her children, J.R. Thompson and wife, Janet, of Houston; Tim Thompson of Portland, Oregon; Ted Thompson of Abilene; and Liz Sinclair and husband, Jerry, of Abilene; grandchildren, Laurie Rice and husband, Robert, of Keller; Leslie Hilberth and husband, Brian, of Dallas; Tanna Hundley and husband, John, of Dove Canyon, California; Jeremy Turner and wife, Charla, of West Chester, Ohio; Jessica Thompson of Portland, Oregon; Katherine Kinnaman and husband, Andrew, of Abilene; and Libby Sinclair of Abilene; 3 nieces; and many great-grandchildren; and her loving friend and caregiver, Annie.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Meals on Wheels or Rescue the Animals, organizations that were close to Doris' heart.
