She was born November 28, 1947, daughter of Charles Wilford Brant and Virginia Evelyn Mills Brant. She was married 3 times. Her first marriage was to Jesse Edward Fortner with one child, Thomas Ritner Fortner, born to the union. Her second husband was Richard Lee Fortner, with one son, Thomas Ritner Fortner, born to the union. Her third husband of 35 years was Roger Lee Tharp; they were married November 22, 1968 in Mt.
