Smith 10 June 1924 - 25 November 2011 Staff Sergeant US Army Gainesville Daily Register Sunday, November 27, 2011 Whitesboro - Funeral services for Oliver Smith, 87, were held Saturday morning, November 26, 2011 at the Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Whitesboro with Chaplain Katrina Seitz officiating. He passed away on November 25, 2011 in Gainesville, Texas. Oliver Windle Smith was born on June 10, 1924 to William and Mary Elliot Smith in Melissa, Texas. He married Dell Adams on December 13, 1946. He served in the U.S. Army, 1st Calvary during World War II. He was stationed in Tokyo, Japan when the peace treaty was signed to end the war. He retired from Chevron-Texaco in 1987 after 35 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Dell Smith; daughter, Jan Torrieri; granddaughter and husband, Stacey and Jeffrey Young; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Lauren Kate, and Kendall Young; brother and wife, Leonard and Lela Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
