James Wesley Estes was born June 28, 1952 in Riverside, California. Over the next several years, he lived in many places with his family, traveling with the military, until settling in Austin in 1967. Jim graduated from Reagan High School with the class of 1969. After high school he enlisted in the US Army, serving in the US as well as Augsburg, Germany. Jim then continued his education to earn a Bachelor's degree from Texas State University (formerly Southwest Texas State University). He worked for the Texas Department of Transportation as a computer network analyst for 17 years, In his spare time, he loved to kayak, swim and go fishing near his home on Lake Travis.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Lindsay Estes Wood and husband, Jesse; as well as a sister, Kathy O'Neal and husband, Alan, and their children, Tayler and Casey.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Ret. Lt. Col. James Estes and Irma Estes.
He was loved as a wonderful father, brother, and friend.
Service was held at the Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Georgetown Friday, June 16, 2006. Graveside services were held Saturday, June 17, 2006 at Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro.
