Whitesboro Anita L. Phillips 8 August 1938 - Robert R. Phillips 16 September 1931 - 14 March 2004 US Army Korea Children: Joel R & Elizabeth L Robert Ray Phillips, 72, of Ranchester died Sunday, March 14, 2004 in Sheridan Memorial Hosptial. Memorial services were held Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Sheridan with Rev. Don Derryberry officiating. Cremation took place with interment in Whitesboro, Texas at a later date. Mr. Phillips was born September 16, 1931 in Osage, Arkansas to Galford and Golda Phillips. He grew up in Felt, Oklahoma, where he was raised by his uncle and aunt, Reuben and Inez Phlillips. He graduated from Felt High School in 1950 and then attended Panhandle A&M College before being drafted. He served in the US Army from 1953-1955. In 1958 he received his Bachelors degree from Panhandle A&M and later received a Masters degree in education from Northwestern State College, Alva, Oklahoma. He taught school in Texahoma, Oklahoma and Tyrone, Oklahoma, where he met his future wife. He married Anita L. Squires in Dalhart, Texas on November 7, 1964. In 1967 he accepted a teaching position in mathematics at Tongue River High School in Dayton, where he also coached basketball for several years. He was a lifetime member of the National Education Association (NEA) and served a term as president of the local Wyoming Education Association chapter. He retired from TRHS in 1984. An avid outsdoorsman throughout his life, Mr. Phillips enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping in the Big Horn Mountains. He was preceded in death by his two sisters. He is survived by his wife; a son, Joel Phillips of Sunnyvale, California; a daughter, Elizabeth Phillips of Oceanside, California; and a nephew, Robert Mitchell, of Concord, California.
