He was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene Short Melton. Imogene Melton, 84, of Whitesboro, died Friday, June 4, 2004 at her residence. Funeral services were Monday morning, June 7, 2004 at Meador Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Daryl Woerz officiating. Interment followed in Oakwood Cemetery. Mrs. Melton was born February 16, 1920 in Frost, Texas, daughter of Albert B. and Callie Elizabeth Hughes Short. She married James E. Melton on June 8, 1940 in Mansfield, Texas. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Whitesboro. Mrs. Melton is survived by son, Charles Melton and wife, Nicki, of Denison; three grandchildren, Dona Nowlin of Irving; Debra McCarroll and husband, Brad, of Valley View; and David Melton and wife, Becky, of New Boston; 4 great-grandchildren, Michelle Nowlin of Irving; Rebekah McCarroll and Joshua McCarroll of Valley View; and Audrey Melton of New Boston; 3 sisters, Johnnie Faye Meadows of Addison; Toledo Lynch of Dallas; and Mackie Hopkins of Dallas. Pallbearers were Rogers Woolsey, Gene Harper, A.B. "Gus" Green, G.C. McDonnell, Charles Skipworth and Ray Gann. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters and 1 brother.  Charles W. Interment followed in Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro. Pallbearers were John David Melton, Jaral Meadows, Jeff Lanier, Kirby McDowell, Brad McCarroll, and Shaun Thomas. Honorary pallbearers were Rodney Short and John Short. Charles passed away at the St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Hot Springs, Arkansas on February 1, 2009. He was born March 25, 1943 in Corsicana, son of James E. and Imogene Short Melton. He married Ethel NIcki Weston in Monahans in 1962. Charles was an automotive dealer and an outdoor enthusiast. Survivors include his wife; son, David William Melton and wife, Becky, of New Boston; daughters, Dona Melton McDowell and husband, Kirby, of Arlington; and Debra Melton McCarroll and husband, Brad, of Valley View; grandchildren - MIchelle Nowlin of Denver, Colorado; Rebekah McCarroll and Joshua McCarroll of Valley View; Audrey Melton, Tyner Melton and WIley Melton of New Boston.
