Friday, March 15, 1935 pg. 3 J.W. Kay, 13, Dies From Accidental Discharge of "Unloaded" Gun Funeral services Held at Home on Sunday Afternoon The oft repeated tragedy of the "unloaded" gun took its toil [sic] in this community Saturday when J.W. Kay smilingly told his friend and playmate, Doyle Harding, to shoot him. "Is it loaded?" queried young Harding. "No," was J.W.'s reply. Doyle pulled the trigger of the gun, a .22 rifle, which was pointed at his playmate. The discharge entered his heart. Mortally wounded, the little fellow ran about 20 yards from the barn. There he stumbled and fell, and a few minutes later breathed his last. The rifle was a Christmas present. The boys were in the barn preparing for a hunting trip when the accident occurred, it is said. J.W. was the 13- year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Bonnie Kay, 3 miles southwest of Tom Bean. He attended the local school several years, but had attended school at Jameson for some time. Besides the heartbroken parents, he leaves 2 sisters, other relatives and friends to mourn his loss. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the family home with Rev. Temple Bigham, pastor of the Pentecostal church, conducting the services. Schoolmates acted as pallbearers. Interment was at White Mound with W .T. Francis in charge. Whitemound Cemetery Susan Hawkins © 2024 If you find any of Grayson CountyTXGenWeb links inoperable, please send me a message. |
