Thursday, August 6, 1936 pg. 1 CECIL McCOLLOM AND SON'S WIFE KILLED IN WRECK Funeral services for Cecil McCollom, 46, and his son's recent bride, Mrs. Clyde McCollom, 17, were held Monday at the Pink Hill church, northwest of Bells, Rev. Russell Murley, Baptist minister, officiating. Interment was in Washburn Cemetery nearby. Mrs. McCollom was killed and Mr. McCollom was fatally injured at dusk Saturday when the car in which they were riding crashed with a Postal Telegraph Company lineman's truck. W.K. McGill, 35, and Clyde McCollom, 20, suffered bruises in the accident. McGill, driving east in an old-model car, hit the truck as he attempted to pass a car on the crest of a hill on Highway 5 three miles east of Sherman. McGill's sedan struck head-on into the left fender of the truck. So terrific was the impact that the sedan was literally splintered. The top and one side was torn away. The young bride and Mr. McCollom were thrown underneath the truck and pinioned there when it overturned. Both had to be pried from the wreck. Mrs. McCollom was dying when extracted from the wreckage. McGill and Clyde McCollom were thrown to the dirt shoulder of the road. Leon Duncan of Dallas, driver of the truck, and R.A. Key, lineman riding in the truck, were not badly hurt. Mr. McCollom was well known in Whitewright, having resided east of here for several years. He was born January 30, 1890 at Blue Ridge. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Susie McCollom; four sons and three daughters, Pete, Clyde, Lucille, Cecil, Dorothy, Anna Ruth and James Earl McCollom, all of Pink Hill. Mrs. Clyde McCollom was formerly Miss Ruth McGill and was born December 11, 1919, at Bells. She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.K. McGill; two brothers, Marvin and Dewey McGill; and two sisters, Miss Nellie and Miss Helen McGill, all of near Bells.
