October 5, 2011 Jerry Lynn Stanley quietly left his family and friends on Monday October 3rd, 2011, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born August 12, 1948, the youngest son of nine children, to Alvin Lee and Coy Lea Mchone Stanley in Sherman. He was 63 years old. He attended Sherman schools until the ninth grade, when he went to work as a dishwasher. Throughout his lifetime, he worked as a contractor in the construction industry and as a truck driver until he began Jerry's Trash Service, as a one man operation, in 1991. In twenty years, the business grew to cover the Van Alstyne, Howe, Luella, Whitewright, and Tom Bean area. He never retired, instead operating the business until his death. He was a lifetime member of the Sherman Elks Lodge and Van Alstyne American Legion. He married Dorothy Lair in 1975. Together, they raised two children, Jimmy Stanley and Robin Rankin. They were divorced in 2006. In 2009, he met Joyce Moore, and they remained together until his death. He was loved dearly for his tendency to be outspoken and his willingness to express his opinion, and the smile that always followed both will be forever be missed. He valued friendship and honesty, and always noticed integrity. He appreciated a willingness to work and respected determination. He desired to leave behind a contribution that will be continued, hoped that he had brought respect to his family, and rated his success by in which he had done both. He is survived by his companion, Joyce Moore of Van Alstyne; his children, Jimmy Stanley of Sherman, and Robin Rankin, and her husband Darren Rankin, of Tom Bean; two grandchildren, Lacy Rankin of Tom Bean and Rene Rogers of Phoenix, AZ.; brothers, Billy Stanley and wife Robbie of Sherman, Jimmy Stanley, and his wife Kathy of Bonham; sisters, Bertha White of Amarillo, Shirley Quinn of Wilburton, OK.. and Sheila Klauss and husband Mike of Sherman; 27 nieces and nephews; and his dear friend, Jimmy Mcgraw, of Telephone. He was preceded in death by his parents, A.L. Stanley and Coy Lea Farris, of Sherman; brothers, Bob Stanley of Sherman and Frank Stanley, and wife Dottie, of Bonham; and sister Mary Bullock of Amarillo. The family will welcome visitors on Friday, October 7th from 7 - 9 p.m., at Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman. At his request, there will be no graveside services, but he will be privately laid to rest in Washburn Cemetery in Bells.
