Mr. Badgett was born March 14, 1845, and was in his 82nd year when the summons came to him from the world beyond.  Tennessee was his native state, but he moved to Kentucky in young manhood, and came to Texas from Kentucky in 1878, and settled near Whitewright.  Fifteen years ago he moved to Whitewright and made his home here until his death.
He was united in marriage with Miss Orlena Davidson December 24, 1882.

Mr. Badgett was a man of great energy and sound judgment.  He was a close student of affairs and was well posted on current events.  He was always found on the right side of all moral questions and was a good citizen. He was a Mason for many years and was converted and joined the Baptist Church at the age of fifteen.
A large number of out-of-town relatives and friends of the family attended the funeral service.  The floral offerings completely covered the new made grave.
The active pallbearers were: C.M. Dillon, S.E. Wallace, Roscoe Pace, E.J. Lilley, W.T. Simmons, and Sam McMillin.

Miss Bettie Lou Badgett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Badgett, died at the family home in east Whitewright shortly after the noon hour Tuesday, September 16th.  She was nearly 24 years of age.  For the past several months she had been in bad health, having never recovered from a slight attack of influenza during the epidemic of that malady last winter.
Her parents and two sisters, Misses Nell and Pernie, and two brothers, Ray and Cecil, survive, all of whom were present at the funeral except Cecil, who is in the United States Navy and too far away from home to be notified.  We are informed, however, that he is on his way to Whitewright.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist church in this city Wednesday afternoon at four o'clock, conducted by three of our local pastors, Revs. Epting, McCraw and Fender.  Interment was at the City Cemetery.
Miss Bettie Lou was a lovable young lady of refined character and a deportment that won for her the esteem and warm friendship of her associates.  She was a member of the Baptist church, and no fault could be found with her as a true and faithful church member, who earnestly sought to live right and impart the ideals of right living to others.  Her untimely death is deeply deplored by the people of the community, among whom she has been reared.

CECIL BADGETT LOSES LIFE IN SEARS POOL
Cecil Badgett, 41, son of Mrs. Spivy Badgett, was drowned in the pool on the T.E. Sears farm, one mile southeast of Whitewright, Thursday afternoon.
The deceased and T.E. Sears left town together a few minutes before the tragic death.  They were joined by Floyd Samples, who resides on the Sears farm, and all went together to the pool.  Cecil undressed and swam out to a log near the center of the pool.  After resting a short time on the log, he started to swim back to the bank but suddenly sank and did not rise.  Mr. Samples, who cannot swim, waded out as far as he could without getting into water over his head, and when he saw he could not reach the place where Cecil went down, he ran to a field where J.R. Ford was working and called to him for help.  Mr. Ford soon reached the pool and brought the body to the bank, where an effort was made to restore life..  This work was done under the direction of Sidney Watson of the Texas-Louisianan Power Company.  After two hours of work all hope was give up and the body was brought to town by Lloyd Moore and prepared for burial.
Cecil Badgett was born near Whitewright February 24, 1891, and had resided here all his life, with the exception of four years service in the United States Navy, a part of which service was during the World War.  For the past several years he had been employed at local filling stations.  He was popular among his friends and was accomodating and courteous to all with whom he had dealings.  He was a member of the American Legion.
The funeral services were held at the late residence Friday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock with Rev. W.H. Ackley, pastof of the First Baptist Church, in charge.  He was assisted by Rev. Joe M. Russell, pastor of the Presbyterian church.  The active pallbearers were as follows: Claud Dillon, Cull Reeves, Bob Sears, C.W. Bryant, Jr., W.E. LaRoe, and Grover Stuteville.
The deceased is survived by his aged mother, Mrs. Spivy Badgett; one brother, Ray Badgett of Floydada; and two sisters, Mrs. L.T. Bishop of Floydada and Miss Pernie Badgett of Whitewright, all of whom were present at the funeral services.
The following were among the out-of-town relatives present at the funeral services: Tom Davidson and two daughters of Duncan, Oklahoma; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Badgett, Earl Badgett and Roscoe Badgett, Denison; Mrs. C.K. Spindle and daughter, Denison; Mr. and Mrs. L.T. Bishop and Ray Badgett, Floydada; and Mr. and Mrs. H.W. Witcher, Sherman.
