Mary E. Badgett 1857 - 1921 Sandy H. Badgett 1839 - 1926 The Whitewright Sun Thursday, February 18, 1921 pg.1 Mrs. S.H. Badgett Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Badgett, wife of S.H. Badgett, died at the family home in northwest Whitewright early Monday morning. She had been in ill health since early last year and had been confined to her bed since November. The decedent's maiden name was Mary Elizabeth Jones. She was born in Warren County, Kentucky, August 18, 1854. After coming to Texas with her parents, she was married in 1883 to her surviving husband, S.H. Badgett. Their 38 years of married life was spent in and near Whitewright, except 4 years when they resided in Oklahoma. She had been a member of the Baptist Church for a number of years and faithfully lived up to the teachings of the Master. Mrs. Badgett was a patient sufferer and realized several weeks ago that the end was near, and was willing and ready to meet her Maker. Thus another good woman has gone to dwell in the land where there is no pain nor sorrow. Besides her aged husband, she is survived by the following children: Mrs. Myrtle and May Badgett and Floyd Badgett of this city; W.D. Badgett of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; Mrs. C.K. Spindle of Denison; and A.R. Badgett of Enid, Oklahoma, all of whom were at her bedside when the end came. The funeral services were conducted at the family home Monday afternoon by Rev. W.J. Epting of Madill, Oklahoma and Rev. J.L. Truett of this city. Interment was made in the City Cemetery. A number of out-of-town relatives and friends attended the obsequies. Thursday, July 22, 1926 pg. 1 S.H. Badgett, one of the few remaining Confederate veterans of this section, died at his home here Monday morning. He had been in failing health for several months. But his condition did not grow serious until Sunday night, and he peacefully passed away at 6 o'clock Monday morning. The deceased was born in Oxford, North Carolina, March 7, 1839. In 1870 he married Miss Virginia L. Currin, and following her death he was married to Miss Mary Elizabeth Jones in 1882. Mrs. Badgett died several years ago. At the beginning of the War between the States, he joined the Confederate Army, serving faithfully till close of the war. He was a member of Company G, 30th North Carolina Regiment. In early manhood he was converted and joined the Baptist church, and during his long life was a faithful member of the church. He had been a citizen of this section since 1880. He was highly respected by all who knew him and will be keenly missed by many friends. The funeral service was held from the late residence Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock by Rev. J.L. Truett, who was assisted by Rev. J.H. Hankins, pastor of the First Baptist Church. Burial was at the City Cemetery. The deceased is survived by the following children: Misses Myrtle and May Badgett and Floyd Badgett of this place, Mrs. C.K. Spindle of Denison, W.D. Badgett of Gordon, Arkansas, and A.R. Badgett of Perry, Oklahoma. A sister, Mrs. Bettie, Young of Rockfield, Kentucky, also survives.
