Hughes 16 December 1908 - 31 October 1970 The Whitewright Sun Thursday, November 5, 1970 pg. 8 Services were held Monday at the Earnheart Funeral Chapel here for Gene Othel Hughes, 61, who died at 9:05 a.m. Saturday. Rev. Dale Gore and Rev. Bill McFatredge conducted the services. Burial was in the City Cemetery here. Mr. Hughes was born December 16, 1908 in Denison. He married Miss Opal Faye Cates on August 5, 1930 in Madill, Oklahoma. He was a Methodist and a member of the Masonic Lodge 167 of Whitewright. Survivors include his wife of Whitewright; son, Ralph Hughes of Whitewright; two daughters, Mrs. Earl Sandefur of Dallas and Miss Nova Hughes of Illiniois; two brothers, R.G. Hughes of Pottsboro and F.H. Hughes of Lubbock; a sister, Mrs. O.J. Reichman of Floriday; and two grandchilren.
